Thanksgiving on Campus

Most people are leaving today, tomorrow or Wednesday to head home or elsewhere to enjoy a delicious Thanksgiving day dinner, but what about everyone who is staying on campus? I’ve done a little research on how to cook your own Thanksgiving dinner cheaply and easily.

  1. Buy a frozen turkey, they are fairly inexpensive and as long as you have an oven, easy to cook. If you don’t have an oven, most grocery stores sell sliced, baked turkey meat.
  2. Mashed Potatoes. Buy a bag of potatoes and do it the old fashioned way with milk and butter for a few bucks, or buy instant potatoes.
  3. Gravy can be bought pre-made in a can or you can buy a mixture for a buck or two.
  4. Stuffing. All you need is a box of Stovetop and you’ll be on your way.
  5. Squash/sweet potatoes. Cheap again. Either do the mashing with some butter or buy instant.
  6. Cranberry Sauce.  I have always thought since I was little that the cranberry sauce out of a can tastes the best anyway.
  7. Rolls. Buy a can of store brand frozen rolls and put them on a cookie sheet.
  8. Apple Pie. This is probably the most labor intensive part of the meal. Buy the crust for sure, and look up a simple recipe for apple pie.
