It’s that time of the year…

Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday food season. We eat, and eat, and eat, and eat until we enter food comas and have to take a nap on the couch. This is my kind of season. I thought I’d share some of my favorite holiday sweets recipes, some favorite family recipes! 

Baking is an easy and cheap way to create multiple gifts to exchange rather than buying tons of gifts for friends. 

Ginger Crinkles


These are my ultimate favorite holiday cookie. They are similar to Ginger Snaps, but softer and sweeter. Here is the recipe:

2 cups of flour
1/2 Tsp. Baking Soda
1/2 Tsp. Salt 
1/2 Tsp. Ginger
1/2 Tsp. Cinnamon  

2/3 cup Molasses 
1 cup Sugar 
1 egg
1 cup oil

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix wet ingredients and dry ingredients separately.  Add mixed dry ingredients to wet mixture and mix well. Roll into teaspoon size balls and roll in sugar. Place 2 inches apart on un-greased cookie sheet and bake for 8 minutes. 

Rum Balls


1 cup powdered sugar
2 Tbs. cocoa powder  
2 1/2 cups vanilla wafers
1 cup pecans
2 Tsp. vanilla extract
3 Tbs. corn syrup
3 Tbs. rum
1/4 Tsp. almond extract

Sift cocoa and confectioners sugar together and combine with cookie crumbs and pecans. Add corn syrup, rum and flavorings. Roll into 1 inch balls, and then roll in granulated sugar. Store in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator.
